Government meal deal

The government has announced an 'eat out to help out' discount of 50% on meals and non-alcoholic drinks in cafes and restaurants from 3-31 August in a bid to get people dining out again. Chancellor Rishi Sunak says it will apply from Mondays to Wednesdays and the saving will be limited to up to £10 per head on sit-down meals for everyone, including children, at restaurants that sign up.

A first-of-its-kind government-backed discount for all, he declared. ‘To
get customers back into restaurants, cafés and pubs, and protect the 1.8 million people who work in them.’ Where possible, the GFG will bring you news via the website and social media of any of our restaurant entries that have signed up to the scheme.

The government has also cut VAT for the hospitality and tourism sectors from 20% to 5% for six months from 15 July 2020 to 12 January 2021.
