Mexican chef Tonatiuh Erreguin has a soulful approach to baking which has nourished a grateful community of customers in Stoke Row and across the Chilterns since opening in an industrial unit in 2019. Her standout sourdough attracts snaking queues (it’s advisable to arrive early), while sweet and savoury seasonal danishes, pistachio ‘cruffins’ and golden sausage rolls complete the flavour-packed line-up.

The service was warm and friendly, chatty helpful staff behind the counter offered to answer any questions, give detailed information on each item/loaf. Although it was hard to chose from the stunning traditional pastries and those with an unusual delightful twist, we settled on the almond croissant (gorgeous) and the carefully decorated pistachio croissant my partner tried. I look forward to bringing my friends and family here, a truly delightful gem centred around many great walks.

I had a croissant, an elderflower and strawberry Danish, and a coffee. From the counter, I could see the bakers shaping bread and making wood-fired toasties. I took a sourdough loaf home, which was excellent. There’s also a small selection of things to go with bread; I picked up some butter and milk while I was there.
