Benjamin Cumberpatch is gaining quite a reputation at this food hub located in a sunken, covered courtyard on Hastings seafront. Descend stairs from the pavement and pick your way past various outlets for pizza, sushi, beer and cocktails, and you'll discover a surprisingly charming, laid-back spot with just a handful of tables and a kitchen in the corner. Ricotta dumplings are a speciality, served with seasonal accompaniments. Otherwise, the short menu is a sprightly mix of mackerel, hake, lamb belly and the like, all delivered in unaffected, easy-to-like combinations that are perfect for sharing. If you’re amenable to something a bit different, the brief all-English wine list is a delight. Worth knowing about if you're in the neighbourhood.
