Derbyshire, Barlow - Modern British / Italian - Pub

It may lean towards the dining side of the pub scale, but this independent hostelry also has a bar area when drinkers can explore the hefty wine list and gin selection. Sunday roasts and dishes such as sea bream with salty sea vegetables, dill sauce and chive mash come in for praise, although the kitchen is also inspired by Italy. Expect arancini, garlicky dough balls, pastas and pizzas with crispy-edged sourdough bases and gently anglicised toppings – note the Lancashire Blue cheese in the quattro formaggi. To finish, the sticky toffee pudding deserves a medal, especially when teamed with malt ice cream. Staff help to create a welcoming atmosphere 'with no airs and graces'.

Our favourite pub in the area - we recently ate here twice within a week and both experiences were extremely good. The combination of consistent great quality and excellent hospitality over a Saturday and Tuesday makes this a stand out establishment. Different staff and different food on each occasion but the same fantastic result. The menu is varied and suits most occasions, so whether you opt for (one of the best) bouillabaisse I've ever had, or a pizza, you wont be disappointed. But don't forget, a side of the doughballs is a must! The staff are knowledgeable and very friendly, without being fussy.

The Tickled Trout in Barlow is, without doubt, the best pub in our area. The staff are so warm and friendly, they genuinely make you feel welcome every single time. The food is amazing, always delicious. The whole place has such a lovely, cosy atmosphere and it’s clearly the heart of the local community, full of familiar faces and friendly chat. It’s more than a pub.

The welcome, friendliness and attentivness you get from staff is always great. The food, well, what can we say..... it is ALWAYS fabulous. There is always something delicious on the menu to tempt you. We have never been disappointed and always look forward to our visits. We recommend The Tickled Trout to everyone.

Everything!! From amazing food, a truly welcoming atmosphere, smiley team and excellent beer selection which is perfectly kept. The pub manages to combine a fine dining environment and a real ‘local pub’ atmosphere without one dominating the other. Genuinely great place.
