‘Fresh, delicious, creative!’ declares a fan. This independent sandwich joint transcends its location on a shopping precinct, with bookable tables, an upstairs dining room, outdoor seating and takeaways. Up-tempo beats add to the vibe – as do friendly staff in black hoodies. Food is centred on various hefty sandwiches: thick slices of white bloomer, lightly grilled and bursting with fun fillings. The ‘porkie pig’ comes with sausage and pulled pork, submerged under a welter of potato and onion rösti, Cheddar, ‘homeslaw’ and barbecue sauce – with a knife sticking out like a dagger. Drink from a basic choice of bevvies, and toast the Slamwich Club for beating the fast-food chains. Slam dunk!
