The Perfect Place to Grow

A delightful little daytime café in a converted Victorian morgue, this Tracey Emin-backed project is run by two local restaurants (Angela’s and Bottega Caruso) to support young people facing unemployment in the Margate area. Inside, it is cheerful and light with an open-to-view kitchen and tables spilling outside in the summer months. Overseen by experienced chefs and a front-of-house team, the trainees cook and serve a simple menu that celebrates the diversity of modern British cuisine, from an egg, bacon and sausage breakfast roll to one-plate lunch dishes such as Bottega Caruso’s ragù on toast or chicken karahi with rice (a Pakistani recipe provided by one of the trainees).
