Even when they promote ‘regional’ food, most Italian restaurants in the UK tend to work from a limited repertoire, so it was a welcome surprise to find this modest, indie trattoria, which not only has an authentic feel but also features some lesser-known items from the owners' Piedmontese homeland. Pasta is handmade each day and the results are impressive: our ravioli del plin (tiny pillows of pasta stuffed with beef and pork in a rich broth) was a carefully crafted success. Thankfully it was served with the restraint that typifies this dish, unlike a superb burrata that was not enhanced by the addition of a fussy pea purée. On Saturdays and Sundays, festive lasagne is the main event.
