Community-focused charmer

Sai Deethwa and James Fitzgibbons are the enterprising husband-and-wife team who created a cult following for delicious Thai street food with their food van, Buddha Belly. Now settled in a bricks-and-mortar restaurant, they have brought authentic Thai cuisine to a suburb renowned for thriving independent eateries, their popularity among Brum diners undiminished. Soi 1268 is everything you hope a neighbourhood restaurant will be, run with unmistakable warmth and genuine, relaxed hospitality. And the food is exceptional. It's bold, vibrant, and packed with flavour, whether the incomparable beef massaman or spicy chicken panang. Local craft beers, well-executed twists on classic cocktails, and a brief wine list round things out.

The staff are always so welcoming and knowledgeable about the food. The first time we went we ended up back the same week the food was so good. Don't get me started on the Beef Massaman or the Thai Fried Chicken! Unbelievable!

Soi 1268 is exactly the kind of place you hope to have on your doorstep. It’s somewhere we keep coming back to, whether it’s for a relaxed meal or to share a few dishes with friends. The mix of small plates, Thai curries and rice bowls makes it perfect for sharing, and every time we’ve been, the food has been full of flavour and genuinely memorable. Nothing feels standard, each dish stands out in its own way. There’s also a great selection of beers on tap and a really warm, laid-back atm...
