Lubber Kitchen
Tyne & Wear, Newcastle upon Tyne - Modern European - Restaurant - ££
With stainless steel-topped tables, a polished concrete floor and an open-to-view kitchen, there’s an industrial feel to this small, independent café. It’s just a short walk from Central Station and worth seeking out for good-value lunchtime sandwiches of freshly made focaccia jam-packed with, say, chicken, spicy mayo dressing, salad and pickles, as well as home baked treats ranging from a full-flavoured rye chocolate chip and coffee cookie to a lovely blackberry upside-down cake. Or maybe a daily special such as glazed ox heart and butter bean stew will catch your eye. They also serve dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, when tables can be reserved for a simple but imaginative three-course menu.

Veggie-forward, seasonal and family-style sharing meals that are always thoughtful and flavourful. Extremely reasonable dinner set at £34. Cocktails are also home-brewed and delicious.

Such a fabulous warm and friendly place with amazing, quality cooking for evenings and lunch time. The place is small and has an amazing vibe, including carefully prepared home made drinks and desserts as well as set menu. Highly recommended.

I was excited about the interesting concept behind the cafe and was certainly not disappointed. Dinner on Friday night was imaginative , generous and beautifully presented. Delicious food in a relaxed and friendly setting. Would definitely recommend.
