The building (once a social club) may not look much like your average Indian restaurant, but appearances can be deceptive. Inside, Lily’s is vibrant and cool, with young staff in burnished orange tunics and a backdrop of warm colour schemes, upholstered fabrics and hand-painted murals of Indian street life. The full-on vegetarian menu roams far and wide, with loads of choice ranging from Mumbai-style street-food chaats to Indo-Chinese fusion plates such as paneer hakka noodles. In between, expect savoury nibbles and snacks (kachoris, pakoras, bhel puris, cheese pau buns and much more besides), plus a line-up of South Indian curries, dhals and tandoori breads. Of course, much of the food is also vegan-friendly. Also look out for festive menus and regular thali nights on Thursdays. Drink fruity lassi, wine or a bottle of Indian beer. The owners also run Lily’s Deli on Henry Street, Ancoats and Manchester Road, Chorlton, where you can 'eat in or grab and go’ as well as stocking up on Indian provisions.
