Half Dozen Other
Greater Manchester, Manchester - Bakery
Despite the clunky name and unprepossessing post-industrial location (sandwiched between an open car park and railway arches on the edge of town), this brick-coloured shed-like bakery nonetheless attracts a steady stream of customers. Although the buttery hand-laminated croissants, funky flaky pastries, burnished cinnamon buns and tangy sourdough can be sampled in their city-centre premises at Circle Square on Oxford Road (which also serves sandwiches and hot savoury items), there’s a wee thrill in navigating your way off the beaten track to the bakehouse itself. Reward yourself with an excellent coffee and an almond-cream croissant shaped like a bear’s paw. You can also sample HDO's wares at their three Pot Kettle Black cafés dotted across the city.
