Half Cut Market
London, Islington - International - Restaurant
Not a market, but a wine bar and restaurant on the so-called York Way Riviera between Kentish Town and Caledonian Road. Locals have embraced this cheery spot with its terrazzo tables, Dan Flavin-esque neons and sensibly priced wine list (by Holly Willocks of Mountain). Ten wines are offered by the glass plus around 50 by the bottle, with all tastes catered for (you’ll find Bordeaux and Rioja among the ‘Rainbow Juice’, ‘Crazy Crazy’ and co). Former Brat chef Aidan Richardson goes beyond wine-bar ‘picky bits’ to offer unusual dishes including cheese and potato flatbread, smoked eel rice, escovitch mackerel with salted mandarin, and slow-grilled chicken with jerk sauce. Dessert is a seasonal éclair such as toffee apple. Good-value set menu, too (Tue & Wed).
