Reached via a network of long and winding roads, this enterprising, personally run restaurant sits cheek by jowl with a working smallholding – part of an award-winning architectural renovation project. Communal tables, narrow windows and clean lines give the dining room a monastic feel, and the menu is equally pared-back with the emphasis on home-grown and seasonal produce from the island cooked in a homely style. Haggis with crumbly cornbread and earthy salsa verde is a signature dish, but also expect anything from half a lobster with a ‘mountain’ of niçoise salad to sinfully rich lasagne with pork and venison ragù. A short, sharp drinks list features natural wines, vegan beers, cocktails and local spirits. There’s also a café and shop for walk-ins.
