North Yorkshire, York - European - Restaurant

Small but perfectly formed – and perfectly friendly too – this informal evenings-only restaurant (plus Sunday lunch) by one of York’s ancient city gates has been run by the same people for over 20 years. Expect careful, seasonal cooking from the bistro canon, with savoury tarts and terrines to start, followed perhaps by fish of the day with boulangère potatoes and beurre blanc, or gnocchi with smoked aubergine ragù. There’s front-row people-watching from the table in the bow window, or ask for one at the back that opens onto a tiny walled garden. Just minutes from the York Minster – and with food available from 5pm – this is a great choice for a delicious reboot after a day’s tourism around the city.

Small but perfectly formed. Cosy, unpretentious. Warm friendly staff … but above all the food is top notch. Everything on the menu is prepared with love and is deeee-licious. My favourite place to eat in York

It is your friendly neighbourhood bistro with top quality, beautifully presented, melt in the mouth food, whether going for an informal lunch on Friday or Saturday, Sunday lunch (the most succulent roast beef you’ll have anywhere) or dinner (highly recommend the melt in the mouth belly pork or the beautifully cooked duck or anything …). The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, it is our go to birthday celebration place, chill out for dinner or just wanting an amazing roast Sunday lunch...
