Asuke Sushi

On thundering Manchester Road, Asuke is a tiny escape with a lot on its plate. It's named for the decently rendered sushi, but a large and more international menu runs from bao to wok-fried noodles. Overall, it ticks a lot of boxes and feels especially welcoming for kids who want to rampage among the sushi tacos or get fussy with build-your-own poke bowls. Favourites include platters of beautifully topped nigiri, bronzed eel unagi and yellowfin tuna – all at just the right temperature. Candyfloss-light bao are stuffed with kimchi chicken and served with exceptional seasoned fries, while seafood ramen is subtle and satisfying. Japanese bottled beers, unlimited jasmine tea, BYO wine – and jazz on the turntable – complete an appealing picture.
