Located above an enterprising family-run foodstore just off Junction 43 of the M6, this ‘little gem’ is a local asset but also worth seeking out if you're en route to Scotland. Early breakfasts include all the usual suspects (our mini version of the ‘full 1878’ was a satisfying, reasonably priced plateful), while lunch is an eclectic mixed bag ranging from assorted sandwiches, jacket potatoes and loaded flatbreads to buttermilk chicken bagels, Lebanese crispy chicken and king prawn pil pil – plus assorted cakes and pastries. There are pancakes for the kids and the drinks list is tilted towards driver-friendly beverages.
