Tom Kitchin opens Southside Scran in Edinburgh, Aiden Byrne returns to Manchester House after a year, Stevie Parle launches street food version of Pastaio at Canary Wharf and Tamarind in Mayfair relaunches with new chefs next month

 

Tom Kitchin opens his fourth restaurant in Edinburgh

Tom Kitchin has opened his latest restaurant, Southside Scran, in the heart of Bruntsfield in Edinburgh. Combining the best of Scotland’s produce with Kitchin’s passion for French cuisine, the menu will showcase daily cuts of meat, fish and vegetables cooked on a rotisserie grill in the centre of the dining room. It will be the first time that Kitchin and his team have brought his ‘from nature to plate’ philosophy to the south side of city, following the success of The Kitchin in Leith, Castle Terrace underneath Edinburgh Castle and The Scran & Scallie in Stockbridge.

 

New restaurant in Stratford-upon-Avon from co-owner of London's celebrated Harwood Arms

Mike Robinson, who co-owns The Harwood Arms in Fulham, is opening a new restaurant in Stratford-upon-Avon in February. The Woodsman at The Falcon Hotel will serve British food with an emphasis on wild and locally sourced ingredients, including game from the Cotswolds, with a wood-fired oven and charcoal grill. The head chef will be Jon Coates, who previously worked at Launceston Place under Adam Simmonds.

 

Aiden Byrne returns to reopen Manchester House after brief spell at 20 Stories

Chef Aiden Byrne is reopening Manchester House just weeks after leaving the city’s 20 Stories restaurant. Byrne was chef-proprietor of Manchester House between 2012 and 2017 but it closed in October and was placed in administration. Byrne left 20 Stories at the beginning of November after just eight months. He has teamed up with private investors to relaunch Manchester House. 

 

Pastaio to open a long-term residency at Canary Wharf street food arena

Stevie Parle is launching a long-term Pastaio residency at Giant Robot, the rooftop street food arena in Canary Wharf. The new pop-up version of the Soho original will serve the same menu of homemade pasta and alcoholic slushies including the festive mulled wine and brandy slushie. New dishes will include deep fried n’duja and mozzarella, and Brussels sprouts and chestnut potato gnocchi with fontina cheese and crispy sage. Pastaio launches at Giant Robot on November 26.

 

Relaunch date confirmed for revamped Tamarind with new chefs and ‘fresh concept’

Tamarind, which closed earlier in the year, is to reopen on December 3 following a major eight-month revamp. The Mayfair site, which has doubled its capacity, will also have a ‘fresh concept’ under new executive head chefs Karunesh Khanna (previously head chef at Amaya for 13 years) and Manav Tuli (former head chef of Chutney Mary in Westminster). The new menu will offer lighter dishes including pistachio-crusted grilled lamb chops, and butternut squash kayle seekh. Tamarind’s former executive chef, Peter Joseph, left earlier this year to open Kahani, his first solo restaurant.
