Adam Handling to open restaurant at the Belmond Cadogan Hotel, former Ramsay chef opens in Manchester, Alex Rushmer launches in Cambridge and Rök closes in Shoreditch

Frog chef Adam Handling to open new restaurant in Chelsea

Adam Handling of the Frog in Covent Garden is opening a standalone restaurant at the Belmond Cadogan Hotel with Adam Simmonds as executive head chef. The modern British restaurant called Adam Handling Chelsea will have an open kitchen and wood-fired oven, as well as a chef’s table. Handling will collaborate on the menus with Simmonds, who has worked at Le Gavroche, Danesfield House in Marlow and Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons. Adam Handling Chelsea will open in December.

Former Restaurant Gordon Ramsay chef to open debut restaurant in Manchester

Simon Martin, who worked at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London and Noma in Denmark, opens his debut restaurant in Manchester on October 17. Mana in the city's Ancoats area will serve between 14 and 20 seasonal courses. Autumn dishes include squash cooked in lacto-fermented barley and birch syrup, and berries of the forest with kernel cream.

New Cambridge opening from MasterChef finalist Alex Rushmer

Former MasterChef finalist Alex Rushmer is opening his first restaurant in Cambridge, the city where he was once a student. Called Vanderlyle, the 25-cover restaurant on Mill Road will be run by Rushmer and Lawrence Butler. The duo previously worked together at The Hole in the Wall in Little Wilbraham. Rushmer says Vanderlyle will have a focus towards vegetables, sustainably sourced fish and locally farmed meat.

Rök closes its Shoreditch restaurant and scraps plans to open in Soho

Rök has closed its Shoreditch restaurant and scrapped plans to open an additional site in Soho. Meaning ‘smoke’ in Swedish, Matt Young’s Scandinavian-influenced restaurant will retain its Islington restaurant, which opened in 2016. Young has blamed the rising costs of rents as the main reason for closing Shoreditch after three years.
