A new Brighton site for the Gingerman Restaurant Group, Tommy Heaney goes solo in Cardiff, Norse in Harrogate closes its doors, and Hedone launches a bakery

 

 

New Brighton site planned for the team behind The Gingerman

Ben and Pamela McKellar, the owners of Sussex restaurant group Gingerman, have announced plans to open a new site next year. Part of the Hannington’s Estate development in Brighton’s Lanes area, The Flint House will have 50 covers and serve small plates and a large range of wines by the glass. The Flint House, which is expected to open in January 2019, joins The Gingerman in Brighton, The Ginger Pig in Hove and The Ginger Fox in Albourne.

 

Irish chef Tommy Heaney to open first solo restaurant in Cardiff

Cardiff diners may be lamenting the closure of Arbennig restaurant later this month but the good news is that Irish chef Tommy Heaney is taking over the site, as well as the cafe next door. Heaney, who also cooks at his restaurant at the Great House hotel in Bridgend, will open the Cardiff restaurant in late summer after a refurbishment.

 

Harrogate restaurant Norse closes its doors after four years

Harrogate restaurant Norse has closed after just four years. Well known for its Scandinavian take on Yorkshire produce, the restaurant changed its menu format in January but it wasn’t enough to attract enough regular customers to keep the business going. In a statement posted on the Norse website, owner Paul Rawlinson said: “I just didn’t do a good enough job of telling our story and convincing people to step through the doors.” The restaurant has closed with immediate effect.

 

Hedone chef Mikael Jonsson opens separate bakery

Swedish chef Mikael Jonsson of Hedone has opened a new bakery in Vauxhall. As well as the restaurant’s celebrated sourdough bread, rye bread and baguettes, a range of cakes and pastries will be sold at the bakery every day, including cinnamon buns, and matcha and saffron cake.

 

Group behind Jersey’s Samphire to open new Liverpool restaurant

The group that owns Samphire (formerly Ormer) in Saint Helier is launching a new restaurant in a former banking hall in Liverpool. Called Ormer, the casual, all-day brasserie will occupy two floors of a Grade II-listed Victorian bank on Water Street and include two private dining rooms on top of the planned 170 covers. There will also be a private members club in the basement.
