For the many fans of Ben Crittenden’s original Stark, the good news is that his brother has taken over these minuscule eight-seater premises. As a chef, Luke Crittenden has had a good grounding in classic cooking techniques but transitioned to veganism after becoming aware of the realities of animal farming. His philosophy is simple: he serves what he loves to cook – plant-based food, with no shortage of ambition, confidence or inventiveness. A reliance on wild foods, which often have very short seasons, means the good-value five-course tasting menu changes every week or fortnight. Gorgeous food, and an equally passionate chef. Love having vegan food presented unapologetically which showcases its brilliance. The welcoming and inclusive feel of the restaurant is second to none. And Sparky is a delight.

Aster is a wonderful, warm and welcoming restaurant with the most fantastic Vegan food that appeals to vegans and meat-eaters alike. It is somwehere you will likely eat food youve never heard and experience new flavours and combinations that will still manage to feel like home. The absolute bonus is the lovely Chef and owner Luke and his incredible dog Sparky. 10/10 lunch time company.
