The Good Food Guide is back: a note from our editor

Welcome back to The Good Food Guide, newly invigorated after the pandemic’s shifting blows suspended publication in March 2020.

For 70 years, the Guide has exerted a powerful influence on the UK dining scene, each edition a brilliant record of the nation’s eating out habits. I’m thrilled that this will continue. New owners, CODE Hospitality, with their energy, insight and success as a digital platform for the hospitality industry, will now play a significant role in developing the Guide’s potential.

Nothing else has changed. The Guide’s ethos is the same in 2021 as it was in 1951 – reflecting the voice of the consumer. And our intelligence and information network – aka our long-standing team of inspectors - remains firmly in place, as committed as ever to ensuring that The Good Food Guide remains the UK’s most trusted, best-loved restaurant bible.

What happens next? There are exciting plans afoot. The next edition of The Good Food Guide is already in the planning stage but more importantly, look out for a dedicated weekly newsletter in the next few weeks. Along with updates to the website and a fresh social media presence, we plan to inform and enthuse on every aspect of the UK’s vital dining scene. Please sign up here to be kept up-to-date on what we are up to.

It has been a difficult period for the hospitality business - forced closures, staff shortages, a supply chain in crisis - but there are reasons to be cheerful. Chefs and restaurateurs have learnt to be resilient and creative, and they are determined to make it work. Numerous, exciting new restaurants are now opening, either as a resumption of projects that had been on hold or operators seizing the opportunity to move into empty buildings across the UK.

With so much happening, you need advice you can trust. The independent, authoritative voice of The Good Food Guide is now more important than ever. And we need you, our army of watchdogs, to tell us about your experiences in UK restaurants, good or bad. As ever, our continued success depends on you continuing to support us in this practical way. I hope you take great pleasure in the new iteration of The Good Food Guide, and that you will find time to tell us about your experiences. Just go to ‘Submit a Review’ in the menu bar.

It’s been a long time. I look forward, once again, to finding and championing those restaurants that rise above the pack.
