The dog-friendly opening, in the rural village of Batcombe, will serve 'heartfelt and wholesome' food in 'cosy surroundings'.

Diners can expect beamed ceilings, open fires, and Margot’s robust British cooking. 'If it’s a pint at the bar and a bite you’re looking for, the pub will have a selection of bar snacks available such as crisp pigs skin, smoked cods roe and potted pork', said an announcement.

In the dining room, proceedings will be taken more steadily, and will be suited for longer lunches, a favourite of the Hendersons. Guests can expect the likes of devilled crab and focaccia, chicken and tarragon pie, grilled bream, and whole lemon sole.

If hotel guests are still hungry the next morning, they’ll have the benefit of enjoying Margot’s 'Full Somerset' breakfast, which will be classic and will make the most of fine West Country produce.

The New Zealand chef told The Times: 'I feel a pub is something that is really owned by the people who go to it, and this one was a place to hang out and feel comfortable. We’ll be bringing that back, but to run a business you need all the layers: bedrooms, food, lovely pints…'
