Right by the beach, at the end of the slipway that leads to the eponymous grassy islet, this seafront eatery-cum-beach shack pulls in the crowds with its fabulous views and sought-after alfresco tables. Billed as the ‘most southerly restaurant in the British Isles’, it offers a laminated regular menu of sunny international dishes taking in everything from Greek lamb kofta or crispy duck leg with pancakes to guinea fowl with fondant potato, mushroom duxelle and port jus or Thai lentil and chickpea curry. If it's fish you're after, pay close attention while your server recites the long list of specials – perhaps pan-fried squid with chorizo, black pudding and chilli, whole Dover sole or skate wing with brown butter and capers. You can also get plates of local asparagus and rack of spring lamb, while desserts are unabashed crowd-pleasers – from baked Alaska and chocolate brownie to the house special ‘Dom Pedro’ (vanilla ice cream blended with black cherry purée and Disaronno liqueur, poured over amaretti biscuits, toasted oats and honey). A serviceable wine list kicks off with French house selections from £23.50.
