Tom Oldroyd is opening The Duke of Richmond in Hackney this summer

Oldroyd founder to open French-inspired pub and dining room in Hackney

Tom Oldroyd, the founder of Islington’s Oldroyd restaurant, is opening a pub and dining room in Hackney this summer. Dating from 1841, The Duke of Richmond on Queensbridge Road will have a ‘strong French accent’ when it comes to food. Dishes in the pub and the 30-cover dining room will include Toulouse sausages with mash and roast shallots; roast turbot and béarnaise; and rum baba with grilled pineapple and whipped cream. 

 

L'Anima closes its doors to merge with sister site in Shoreditch 

Italian restaurant L’Anima has closed after ten years but it is merging with its more informal sister site in Shoreditch. Chef Antonio Favuzzi will now cook at L’Anima Cafe, which will serve signature dishes like antipasti of hand-picked crab with sea urchin and sweet red onions, and dry-aged beef fillet tagliata with marrow bones, buffalo blue cheese and salsa verde.

 

Bristol restaurant Wallfish Bistro to close after five years 

Bristol’s Wallfish Bistro has announced that it is closing after five years. Owners Seldon Curry and Liberty Wenham have decided to move to Dorset and hopefully start a family. The couple opened their Clifton restaurant in 2013 after working at a number of restaurants in London and Dorset including Ducksoup and Hix Oyster & Fish House. Wallfish occupies the site of the original Keith Floyd bistro.

 

New Chelsea opening from the team behind Cliveden and Chewton Glen

The team behind the Cliveden and Chewton Glen hotels is opening a new all-day restaurant in Chelsea this spring. Part of the 11 Cadogan Gardens hotel, The Hans' Bar & Grill on Pavilion Road will be headed up by ex-Le Pont de la Tour chef Adam England and general manager Simon Smith, who previously worked at Berners Tavern and Hakkasan. The lunch and dinner menus will include veal carpaccio and confit salmon with goat’s curd and cucumber.

 

Nuno Mendes relocates Taberna do Mercado in Old Spitalfields Market

Portuguese restaurant Taberna do Mercado has closed after three years. Owner Nuno Mendes plans to turn the site into a wine bar and bottle shop whilst relocating the restaurant to The Kitchens, a street food space around the corner in Old Spitalfields Market.
