Britain’s Best Dish – The Chefs: Top Kitchen Gadgets

BBD Roundel Whipping cream

In recent years, technology’s advances have made their way into the kitchen. Nowadays, there are few jobs for which a new-fangled contraption has not been wielded. Most cooks that mean business have a nifty blow-torch or a surprisingly small food-processor squirreled away somewhere in their cupboards. But which contraptions do Britain’s top chefs rely on? This week, the Britain’s Best Dish chefs tell The Good Food Guide about their essential kitchen gadgets.

'I don't have any gadgets, they terrify me, but I do rely heavily on my wife and her Thermomix.'

- John Abbey, Leatherne Bottel

'My KitchenAid.'

- Eddy Rains, The Wheatsheaf

'There’s no gadget that I couldn’t live without. The only things I wouldn’t dream of not having are a chopping board and a good knife.'

- Ludovic Dieumegard, Ludo’s at The Coopers

'A liquidiser.'

- Lawrence Keogh, Roast

'That would have to be my vac pac machine. When it comes to hygiene, storage and versatility I simply cannot think of anything that comes close.'

- Tom Van Zeller, Van Zeller

'A knife.'

- Daniel Green, The Auberge

'My lucky tongs; we’ve done some very hard services together!'

- Ian Swainson, The White Room at Seaham Hall

'My Bamix.'

- Michael Wignall, The Latymer at Pennyhill Park Hotel

'My Victorinox serrated knife.'

- Hans Schweitzer, Cotto

'My Kenwood Chef Titanium for making cakes and bread.'

- Simon Crannage, Samuel’s at Swinton Park

(Just as an aside, The Good Food Guide does not actively endorse these products.)
