Kitchen, Sheffield Kitchen, Sheffield, The Good Food Guide's Best Value For Money 2012

Sheffield is developing a reputation for food with some very good, affordable restaurants. Kitchen certainly is the pick; it's noted for its good portions of unfussy food at highly attractive prices. The restaurant won The Good Food Guide Editors' Award for Best Value for Money. We put a few quick questions to restaurant owner Adrian Walsh.

What does winning The Good Food Guide’s Best Value for Money Award mean to you?
It means everything! Truly amazing. It makes all the hard work and stress worthwhile.

What are the main challenges involved in running a restaurant?
Finance. You think all is well and then something comes up to bite you! Also, finding great staff – the most important part of any organisation.

Which chefs do you admire?
Gordon Ramsay for sheer passion, Heston for imagination, and Sat Bains for an amazing talent.

Do you have a favourite local recipe or ingredient?
I love our head chef John Parson's take on pork with his ‘Dixie’s three little pigs’; belly, fillet and loin with black pudding – awesome!

Who would you invite to a dinner party for six people?
Boris Johnson, John Grisham, David Beckham, Tony Blair, Barack Obama, and Julia Roberts.

What’s been the worst culinary trend of recent years?
Fast food. Too much cheap food with too many E numbers.

What excites you about the restaurant industry today?
The choice available, the availability of ingredients, and chefs who are prepared to take risks.
