In 1949, when Raymond Postgate started his ‘campaign against cruelty to food’, he inspired an army of like-minded people to report on places where the food was decent – The Good Food Club was born, which, in turn, led to the publication of The Good Food Guide in 1951.
In this sense, the bare bones of Postgate’s original Guide remain: the Guide is still based on the huge volume of feedback we receive from readers throughout the year. It's your list of recommendations that creates the longlist for possible inclusion.
We value all the reports we receive, so please keep them coming in because the restaurants listed in the Guide are, in our view, the best places in which to eat out – and that is on your say so. Without your efforts the Guide would not be what it is. We owe a very big thank you to everyone who fills in our online reader feedback form – the Guide couldn’t happen without you.
